Meet Nicole Watson
I’m a mom, an educator, and a proud Oceanside local.
I attended Libby Elementary, Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, El Camino High School, and Pacific View Charter School. This community helped shape who I am—and it’s where I’m raising my son today.
I’ve stayed connected to our schools over the years, and I still know many of the teachers who made a lasting impact on my life. I’ve also had parents reach out to me directly, sharing their concerns, their frustrations, and their desire to see real change in our schools.
Our families want to be heard. Our teachers need support. And our students deserve better.
I’m running to bring accountability, transparency, and a clear focus back to our schools—so every decision reflects what’s best for students and families in Oceanside.
This isn’t just about policy. It’s about our community, our children, and the future we are building together.
Why I'm Running
Our schools should be places where students thrive, teachers are supported, and parents are respected.
Right now, too many families feel unheard, teachers feel stretched thin, and students are not being set up for success.
I’m running to bring accountability, transparency, and real results back to Oceanside schools — with a focus on academic excellence, strong communication with families, and safe, supportive learning environments for every student.
This campaign is about putting students first — and making decisions that truly serve our children, our families, and our community.

Back-to-basics learning—reading, writing, and math—so every student is truly prepared.

Open communication, honest leadership, and decisions that put students and families first.

Safe classrooms and real support so students can learn and teachers can succeed.
The Issues Facing Our Schools
Our schools are facing serious challenges that can’t be ignored. Academic performance remains a major concern, with only about one in four students meeting math standards — meaning the majority of our students are falling behind in core subjects. At the same time, chronic absenteeism continues to impact classrooms, and graduation rates do not reflect the level of readiness our students deserve.
Families across Oceanside have shared that they feel unheard and disconnected from decision-making. Parents are struggling to get clear answers, and in some cases, students are not receiving the consistent support they need — including those with individualized education plans who depend on reliable services.
Teachers are also being stretched thin, often without the resources, support, or communication needed to succeed in the classroom. When educators are unsupported, students feel it.
These challenges are connected. They point to a need for stronger accountability, better communication, and a renewed focus on what matters most: student success. Oceanside’s students, families, and teachers deserve a school system that is transparent, responsive, and committed to real results.
